The Brenta arc lamp is a statement piece with a more refined design than typical architect lamps. The chrome rod parallel to the wider steel pole body adjusts raising the height of the horizontal boom. That extends the shade bringing the lamp to a perfect height next to a chair or higher for over a sectional or seating area. The coil spring expands and contracts and the boom is secured by a locking nut.
